Fluidity Forum Group Calls
I’m back from Vibecamp, where I got to spend time with Fluidity Forum organizers Eileen Martz and Duncan Horst. I met a lot of people who want to attend Fluidity Forum! A warm welcome to newcomers to this newsletter.
Group Calls
There’s a Discord channel for attendees who have registered and paid. Recently we looked over a preliminary catering menu from our venue (which I’ll share here when it’s finalized).
We had our first group call! It was splendid.
One attendee called in while doing scientific field work on the diseases of cranberry plants; and when I say “field work” I mean she was in an actual field.
We brainstormed with @sensefulronin about new forms of social deduction games; such a game might involve asking each attendee (on an opt-in basis) for an obscure fact about themselves & assign each fact to a random other attendee to find out through conversations who that fact is true of.
I got to ask Colin Lysford of Desystemize about the obvious differences between the puzzle game SpaceChem, and actual molecular synthesis; he spoke about how it’s possible to completely know a system (such as a game’s system), but this is not possible of reality.
Our next two group calls are Monday, July 3, 5:30 pm EST, and Tuesday, July 25, 5:30 pm EST.
Standard Attendance Tier Is Open
You might recall from previous newsletters that the price goes up throughout the year, and we call these “tiers”. The only difference between the tiers is price. The Supporter tier was the first 10 to register, and sold out months ago; the Early Bird tier recently sold out. (It was slightly overfilled, because two people registered at the same time. One filled the tier & the other got to it faster than we could react to close the Early Bird tier, but that’s okay.) We’re now on a pricing tier we call Standard, which is $270 for the Lodging Not Included package and $340 for the Lodging Included package.
Completing Your Registration
The main reason I’m pushing you to register is not the money (which I’m happy to report is in a good place, and in any case, I’m encouraging you to pay less by registering earlier). It’s mainly to get your buy-in and motivate you to join our pre-conference activities! This scene has an amazing group of people and I’m really enjoying interacting with you.
Did you get our email yet, in which we invite fully-registered attendees to the Discord? If not, have you followed the instructions in your acceptance email yet, to complete your registration? If you did not get that email either, have you applied? Even if you don’t feel ready to apply, if you’re considering doing so, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts at fluidity@hey.com or DM me on Twitter at @FluidityAudio.
I ran into two friends of mine at Vibecamp who applied to Fluidity Forum, and I expressed curiosity why they had not registered and paid. Was it that they needed financial aid? (That’s available.) They said they didn’t notice in their acceptance email that it gave them instructions for how to register and pay. They immediately did so. I figured I’d highlight it again here for those who missed it.
We have twenty attendees who have completed the registration process. There remain, as of this writing, eleven accepted applicants who have not. Another four had to withdraw. Two of you recently applied but we haven’t sent you your acceptance email yet. If you got an acceptance email and you’re still waiting to apply, or if you’re still waiting to fill out the application, get in touch! We use forms for convenience and clarity, but we aren’t limited to communicating through forms. I’d enjoy making an interactive process between you and us.
Now that the Fluidity Forum organizers are decompressed from attending Vibecamp, the next step will be to work with attendees to nail down how to describe what they are bringing to Fluidity Forum, for our materials. Perhaps the next newsletter will get into that? Until next time!
