It’s time to announce our weekend! Friday, September 22, through Sunday, September 24, 2023! You might want to put that in your calendar now, while it’s on your mind.
Venue News
For venues and lodging, we’ve considered more models than the traditional convention hotel. I’m arranging to rent:
a large function space, which has catering and a restaurant on site
multiple nearby large AirBnB homes (rented by Fluidity Forum for attendees), multi-room full-residences, each of which can sleep a dozen or more attendees
the Detroit Bus Company to bus attendees to and from the airport, the function space, and the AirBnBs
I’ll provide more details for all of these as the rental contracts are finalized.
We would be providing refreshments and a certain amount of food, included.
The budget for this is no longer what you’d call “back of a napkin”. It’s now filled in with real numbers provided by actual vendors, although some of those numbers might change slightly between now and the event. I’m happy with how things are coming together.
The Bridge
I designed a Fluidity Forum logo!
One of the concepts that inspired Fluidity Forum was that of a bridge to meta-systematicity. One of the challenges of passing it on, is that there are insights that you didn't have before, and the more that they are established for you, the harder it is for you to explain them, because you no longer have as much access to what it was like to not have them. It seems too obvious to explain.
I made a new version of a chart about that. You may have seen it in an article by David Chapman, or in its original context by Sarah Perry.
All this to say, if you’re wondering “should I apply to present a talk, a workshop, etc?” it might be a better time to do so now than later.
And on that note— in the next newsletter, I plan to open up the form with which to submit your presentations, workshops, musical performances, art exhibits, homemade kombucha, or whatever else you’d like to contribute! Talk to you then!
